"The Wilds" as we are locally known, offers fully equipped self-catering holiday accommodation and you are invited to stay in our individually furnished, standard, comfortable, well equipped, homely, clean units. We offer 3 joint ground floor cottage type units and 1 affordable (budget) flatlet. We offer accommodation for travelers, families, self-drive visitors and backpackers, couples - young and old and especially nature enthusiasts.
St Lucia Wilds is privately owned and managed, situated in the main street away from the noisy town centre but within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Our units are set in a natural tranquil garden on the embankment of the St Lucia Estuary (lake). Wildlife visit the garden like Tree Squirrels, Banded Mongoose, an abundance of birds, insects, butterflies, small reptilians, small bucks like Red Duiker and Bushbuck, Vervet Monkeys and Thick-tailed Bush babies at night and hippo grazing the grass from time to time.
All units have access to the garden area on lake side via a communal path through the premises to the swimming pool too. The garden units have no view of the lake. Each unit has a little garden separated by plants as view. Come and enjoy the big garden view of the Estuary while watching the many birds, or just relax on a lounger chair under a tree in the cool breeze, drink a "sundowner" while you watch the sun set over the lake or cool down in the swimming pool.
The owners live onsite and are always ready to give information and share their passion for the environment, part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park - World Heritage Site. We have our own garden bird and wildlife list and Igwalagwala Forest Trail site map, with directions to other hot spots. This area provides lots from Zebra to Mangrove Forest to beetles, the sea, forest and lakes.
OUR GARDEN COTTAGE UNITS
We offer 3 adjoining vacation apartment units, ground level. The establishment is in operation since 1987. Building style and set up is dated with new equipment and old used together. The units are kept in excellent condition and maintained continuously.
1 unit has 1 bedroom and the other 2 units with 2 separate bedrooms each. Each unit is like a little house with 1 bathroom and an open plan dining-lounge- kitchen area. The building is face brick walls inside and outside, ceramic tiled floors, carpeted bedroom floors and extra high pine ceilings. All windows are louver type. Oscillating pedestal fans in lounge areas and oscillating fans in bedrooms and airconditioner in one bedroom.
The bathroom has a shower (with curtain) basin, toilet and bath, small mounted mirror cupboard, towel rail and washing basket.
One bedroom has a double bed, closet, money box safe, dressing table and chair and bedside tables. The other bedroom has 2 single base beds, closet, dressing table and chair, bedside tables.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with a back door and washing line outside.
The lounge has a dining table and chairs, lounge chairs and 2 single beds. The patio door leads onto a garden area with braai and garden furniture.
Each unit sleeps 4-6 persons max, incl. children. No meals or toiletries provided.
Extras: Coffee Plungers, aircon in one bedroom, satellite television channels ( M-Net, Movie channels, SABC Channels and e-tv, sports channels and other free channels), free wifi at designated area ( not inside units).
We provide: Dishwash liquid, swab, sponge and dishtowel in kitchen. One bath towel per person. Emergency candle and holder with matches. Once cleaning service in the mornings.
All garden cottage units are equipped as follows:
Garden Cottage No. 1
This unit is closest to the vehicle parking area with 2 small steps. Double bed room has 1 mounted oscillating fan. The single bed bedroom has the aircon and 2 bedside tables. The lounge has 2 single bunker type beds, 3 lounge chairs and small coffee table. The 6 place dining table and chairs and television are part of the dining/lounge area.
Garden Cottage No. 2
This unit is in the middle. Double bed room has 1 mounted oscillating fan. The single bed bedroom has the aircon and 2 bedside tables. The lounge area has 2 single stack type beds, 3 lounge chairs and small coffee table. The 6 place dining table and chairs and television are part of the dining/lounge area.
Garden Cottage No. 3
This unit is on the house end, the communal path goes past the bedroom wall but is not visible at all. The only bedroom has a double bed and aircon. The lounge has 2 single slide beds that looks like a couch and an oscillating fan, television and 2 single seater lounge chairs. The dining area has a 4 place dining table and chairs.
This unit is part of the original old house, converted into 3 flatlets, with some old original fittings. The only entrance has 6 steps which lead into the open plan dining, lounge area with kitchen and bathroom to the left. This flatlet has white painted brick walls, ceramic floor tiles, carpet in the bedroom. The outer walls are almost all louver windows. The lounge dining area has a patched view of the lake, is next to the swimming pool and the communal path to the garden and pool is on the kitchen side. The braai area and garden furniture is on the kitchen side.
The bedroom has 1 double bed and 2 single bunker beds, full wall closets, money box safe, basin, ceiling fan, double doors that close onto the lounge area, headboard with beside tables and lamps, windows that open into the kitchen.
The lounge are right outside the bedroom has a 2 single stack beds also used a couch, a television with remote and 3 lounge chairs, 6 seater round dining table and chairs, fridge and ceiling fan.
The kitchen has a tall pine cupboard, plug in stove, sink and pine cupboard with microwave, toaster and kettle.
The bathroom is through the kitchen with basin, toilet and shower in a small space.

Conditions of Stay
Low season we charge per person per night with a minimum rate applicable. Minimum stay 2 consecutive nights. Child rate for children under12.
High season we charge per unit per night, minimum rate apply then extra pp thereafter.
(All School Holidays and Long Weekends). Minimum stay applies.
Peak Season we charge per unit per night (Easter/mid Dec - mid Jan). Minimum stay applies.
Refundable Key & Breakage Fee Charged R200.00 per unit, payable on arrival in cash. Will be refunded after unit is checked from 8am when office opens. For earlier departure please make arrangement in time.
We reserve the right to change prices at any time and without notice.
31 days and longer before arrival date - full refund of deposit received less R75.00 admin fee + commission paid by us.
16-30 days before arrival - refund 50% of deposit received less commission paid by us
15 days and less before arrival - NO REFUND *
No Arrival, Early Departure, Arrival with Pets - No Refund
*(A Refund will be considered when the period cancelled was filled again. The refund will be calculated pro-rata for days filled, less R75.00 admin fee + commissions paid by us). Refund payment will happen after period cancelled have passed.
Check - In time: 13h00 - 18h00 (later* arrival time to be arranged as reception close, no access to units before 1 pm) * 21h00 or 9pm is latest for arrival.
Departure time: latest 10h00
Regret we do not allow any visitors at your unit at any time or overnight guests in your unit. There are many picnic spots around where you can visit or entertain visitors.
None allowed. Kindly note that this is a nature conservation area and your pets cannot go with you into any of the reserves or parks. You will be denied access to the premises and forfeit your deposit if you bring along any kind of pet.
